As I write this it is two days after Halloween, and I am so thankful that the war is over. At least the war coming from those who are angry that I share my testimony about Halloween. As an ex witch and survivor of the occult, there is always going to be a war coming after me, but the war during October just happens to be exceptionally hot. Thank God I made it through with no battle scars or wounds to show. God’s grace kept me breathing on the days where it felt like the world was crashing in around me, and I am feeling stronger for it.
I have purposed to stay off things such as Facebook, Twitter and Instagram as much as possible the week before Halloween, and even days after. The barrage of assault is more than my soul can take as so many people are either fighting about whether or not Halloween is right, or people are posting their pictures of their festivities. Either way, everything starts to become a trigger when you have experienced the depth of abuse as I have.
One thing I have noticed is some popular Christians who are followed by large groups of people standing up for the cause of Halloween. They are proclaiming from their pulpits with all the power that social media has given them that Halloween is a time that can be redeemed by Christians. That Halloween is not something to fear or hate, but to remake and even rename, for the sake of the Lord. They proclaim that it is indeed a day the Lord has made, and because of that, it is good.
I am very saddened and disheartened when I see Christians stand up in the name of Jesus Christ and call evil good. It is impossible to rectify acts of evil and transform them into works of good instead. God absolutely does take all things and work them for our good, but in the case of Halloween, it is not God Himself taking evil and turning into righteousness, it is human beings taking evil and denying that it even exists.
I can tell you first hand that I absolutely hate evil, and would love to deny all of the evil in this world, or in my life. I would love to build a castle with a giant mote around it high up on a hill where I was virtually untouchable and the world around me could fade off into the distance. Yet if I were to do that, what would truly be the purpose of it? Would my denying the evil of this world change the fact that there is indeed evil? No, it would not.
My people are destroyed for lack of knowledge; because you have rejected knowledge, I reject you from being a priest to me. And since you have forgotten the law of your God, I also will forget your children.
Hosea 4:6
Christians have spent quite a long time being afraid of evil. The devil has been allowed to maneuver into a position of authority over each of our lives. And because of this authority, that we have willingly given away, we are living in fear. Fear of God, fear of man, and fear of the truth. Yet God says that we are all being destroyed for lack of knowledge. That is a pretty powerful statement. We refuse to see truth and therefore reject the knowledge that God has offered us. It is this very knowledge of good and evil we have been craving since the Garden of Eden that we feel powerless to control or understand. So we hide away from it, in hopes that what we cannot see cannot hurt us.
In our attempts to hide from the truth that there is not only evil in this world, but that it has indeed penetrated our very homes, we turn a blind eye to evil altogether. If we can pretend that witches are just something on TV that are for fun, and that witchcraft is not real, then we don’t have to expose the inner recesses of our souls and take a closer look. If we can tell ourselves that we can take something that is evil and make it good with new traditions and a different way of thinking, then there is no harm going to come in participating in them.
The danger is not the evil of this world; it is the fact that we are participating in evil and allowing it into our lives and calling it good. Evil only becomes dangerous when it is left unexposed for what it really is. A door to death and hell. The devil has spent his entire time here on earth developing ways to lure us humans into his trap of calling evil good. All it takes is presenting it to us in a way where we can rationalize all the reasons why it is acceptable and good for us, just as Adam and Eve did. The devil presented to them a delicious looking fruit and then they were able to rationalize that it was perfectly acceptable to go against God’s one rule for them and instead align themselves with the will of the devil.
Woe to those who call evil good and good evil, who put darkness for light and light for darkness, who put bitter for sweet and sweet for bitter.
Isaiah 5:20
The truth is that on Halloween night hundreds of thousands of innocent victims, children and adults alike, are going to be brutally harmed, and some even sacrificed. God does not look down on these acts lightly. God despises these evil works, because there is never any excuse to take an innocent life. That is playing God, and that is exactly what these people are doing. No matter what you do on Halloween night, no matter what you tell yourself about Halloween and evil, you cannot take the evil out of it. You can turn a blind eye because the fact that human lives are being harmed and it is too much to bear, but that doesn’t take away the fact at it is happening.
By deciding to have any participation in any kind of Halloween activity of any kind, no matter what you call it, you are coming into alignment with Halloween itself. Halloween is a high satanic ritual night where satanic rituals are happening all over the world, each one causing some kind of harm to other people. You can say you are going to a Fall Festival, going to celebrate at a church, just hand out candy or tracts; it does not matter. You are participating in the day and therefore agreeing with it.
You cannot change the evil of Halloween because you don’t do anything you see as evil or think of the evil of it. That would be the same thing as going with a friend and finding out they were about to commit a crime you were unaware of. They break into a store and you stand outside in shock. You walk away because you never meant to be a party to a crime and never tell anyone. You are now an accessory. Participating in Halloween makes you an accessory to the evil, especially when you know the facts.
To fear the Lord is to hate evil.
Proverbs 8:13
Can you redeem Halloween for the Lord? Absolutely. By not participating in Halloween in any way, shape, or form. By refusing to align with darkness, and instead praying for the lost and interceding for the innocent. By giving yourself humbly to the Lord and asking Him to show you where you have connected with darkness in your life and asking Him to help you remove it. We all have connections with darkness within us. These connections are only as dangerous as we allow them to be. By refusing to believe they are there, we are giving the devil a power over our lives. It is only when we fully come into the light that we stop giving the devil power over us.
Being a Christian was never about being good or perfect. Being a Christian is about being humble and submitting to God in the face of great uncertainty. It is letting go of fear and the ways we have been taught by the world and following Jesus. Jesus never promised us a perfect life. He never promised us we would have it easy when we accepted Christ. Jesus warned us of how difficult following Him is. Because following Christ is leaving behind the world, which is full of comfort and pleasure.
Yet the world was never meant to be our home, but instead a place where we find freedom and liberty through the pursuit of a relationship with God. Somewhere along the way we have listened to the distorted lies that life is about the perfect home with the white picket fence, that ensures we are happy and safe all of our days. Safety lies only in God. Every other place of comfort or safety we have made for ourselves is nothing but a false idol in our lives.
Blessed is the man who remains steadfast under trial, for when he has stood the test he will receive the crown of life, which God has promised to those who love him. James 1:2
God is not mad at you if you have been participating in Halloween. He isn’t even mad at you for the things you have allowed into your life that have aligned you with the will of the devil instead of His own. God loves you so dearly. He only wants you to come into a relationship with Him. Not a relationship of doing what’s right and making sure you read your Bible or go to church. He wants a real relationship, one based on mutual trust and respect and communication. God does not even except you to change right now. He is not even looking for you to change. All He is looking for is your heart.
Once we give God our hearts, the rest will easily flow together. We all have so much baggage of past pain and trauma in our lives. God understands this, and He understands why we choose to do what we do. But once we have the knowledge in front of us we also have a choice. We can either continue to ignore the evil right in front of our eyes and in our own homes, or we can humbly submit ourselves out of love for our Father and ask Him for help. We cannot possibly do any of this on our own. and we certainly were not meant to.
What we were meant to do is partner with God in this world for a purpose that He has called each of us specifically to. Each person’s purpose is unique and equally important. Each person will face their own challenges and trials through this life as they strive to know God and become the person He has called them out to be in this world. It will never be easy, but in the end, the rewards will be beyond compare.
Elijah went before the people and said, “How long will you waver between two opinions? If the LORD is God, follow him; but if Baal is God, follow him.” But the people said nothing.
