When I first became a Christian, I had never even heard the term ‘deliverance’. I had no idea what it was, and I had no idea that Christians could even have demons. Once I had a firm foothold on the basics of Christianity, I knew I was a good Christian. I went to Bible Studies every week, got baptized, joined a church and did all the right things. I made sure to get rid of everything from the occult I had from my past and repented of all of my involvement with it. I was certain I was doing really well as a Christian.
I saw the fruit of Christ in my life in many ways. I had changed the way I talked, dressed, ate, what I watched and listened too. I was fully submitting myself to Christ in every way I could. Yet as time went on I was still struggling with some sins that I could not get rid of, as well as some other problems that plagued me. So I began searching diligently for answers as to why I had seen so much positive change, yet still struggled so desperately in some areas.
That is when I began to learn about the demonic forces that work against God’s people and how they affect us. It was a learning process that took time for me to understand. It was so contrary to everything that I had learned from church and Bible studies. No one I knew talked about demons and their effects on us, so it took a lot of research on my part to get the answers I was looking for.
As I began to realize that I was indeed fighting dark forces of the spiritual nature in my personal struggles, I began looking for people who could help me. I sought out healing prayer and deliverance prayer in hopes to find relief. Suffering began to really plague me, and the prayer usually offered a temporary relief, but still not enough. That is until God brought me a deliverance ministry that was actually trained and experienced in getting real results.
At that point I had been prayed for so many times I really wasn’t interested. However, my obedience to the Holy Spirit lead me to pursue this new avenue into deliverance. Deliverance is a subject that seems daunting to many. It reminds some of horror movies where your head spins around in circles and spews out green goo. I can assure you, with a properly trained ministry, things like that would never occur.
“And you will know the truth, and the truth will set you free.”
John 8:32
A deliverance ministry that is grounded in the Holy Spirit will be calm and will reveal to you the ways in which the devil has been hindering you all your life. It will also reveal to you a new depth in your relationship with Christ, as well as your spiritual gifts. The Holy Spirit is the true leader of a deliverance session, and the deliverance minister is just the facilitator.
In order to determine whether or not you are in need of deliverance, there is only one important question you need to ask yourself. Are you saved? If you have accepted Jesus Christ as your Lord and Savior, then you need a deliverance. Every Christian, no matter where they are in their walk with Christ, needs a deliverance.
Why is it so important that every Christian receive a spiritual deliverance? This is critical to understand, so that we can move forward into our freedom and healing in Christ. When we are born, we are born into generational sin, as well as generational curses. Generational sin goes down the blood line for up to four generations. That means, if your great, great grandfather committed murder, was sexually immoral, or practiced occultism, etc. you are now affected by that sin.
But if they will confess their sins and the sins of their ancestors—their unfaithfulness and their hostility toward me, which made me hostile toward them so that I sent them into the land of their enemies—then when their uncircumcised hearts are humbled and they pay for their sin, I will remember my covenant with Jacob and my covenant with Isaac and my covenant with Abraham, and I will remember the land.
Leviticus 26:40-42
Having curses or demons in your life does not speak of your relationship with Christ, or of what kind of person you are. Anyone and everyone can have demonic oppression over their lives. It is completely normal and should actually be expected. When Jesus walked the earth for His ministry, He was constantly casting demons out of people. It wasn’t because they were bad people or had committed sin; it was because it’s simply part of the human condition.
When Adam and Eve rebelled against God in the Garden, they aligned themselves with the Kingdom of Darkness. This rebellion was an act of witchcraft and a curse on all mankind to inherit this nature of sin aka rebellion against God. No matter how hard we try, we cannot stop the nature of our rebellion. It is only through partnering with the Holy Spirit inside of us that we can follow the will of Christ and align our minds to His.
However, so many people struggle daily to even do this. They are unable to follow the Holy Spirit or fully submit their hearts to God’s plan for their lives. They have strongholds in some areas of their lives that they cannot conquer. For some, even cultivating a relationship with Christ is next to impossible. The struggle is real and deliverance is the first step.
‘The Lord is slow to anger and abounding in steadfast love, forgiving iniquity and transgression, but he will by no means clear the guilty, visiting the iniquity of the fathers on the children, to the third and the fourth generation.’
Numbers 14:18
There are so many signs of oppression that a person could look for in their lives. Signs that you have demonic activity that is bringing you pain and struggle. The bottom line is, every single Christian needs a deliverance session with a trained and qualified ministry that has proven results to back them up. We don’t want to go out desperately searching for anyone who might help us, but instead wait on God’s timing.
God will lead us where He wants us to go. As you can see from my testimony, trying to do it on your own does not lead to the best results. After all my desperate searching the only real help I got was when God lead the way, not me.
Can a deliverance really help you? Maybe you think that you are doing well, just like I did. You seem to have everything together and really can’t see the point of a deliverance. One of the most important reasons to do deliverance is not only for yourself and your own personal freedom, but for your family. Whether you see the fruit of sin and rebellion in your life or not, it is there. This means that it is also affecting your spouse, your children, your grandchildren, and everyone in your family.
Every person that has a deliverance is actually bringing freedom into the lives of all of their loved ones. You are breaking off strongholds that would have gone down into the generations after you. You are walking out a model of personal healing and freedom for your family members, which will have a profound effect on them. Once I had my deliverance session, my husband was freed up enough to have one of his own.
If we claim to be without sin, we deceive ourselves and the truth is not in us. If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just and will forgive us our sins and purify us from all unrighteousness. If we claim we have not sinned, we make him out to be a liar and his word is not in us.
1 John 1:8-10
In my deliverance session I found out about generational curses and blood rights over me that affected my children, that I could have had no way of knowing otherwise. Everything I do, is for my children. Yes I want to be free, and I want to walk out my call and connect even more with Christ, but even more, I want these things for my family. For my parents, my children, my husband, and everyone else that’s connected to me. If I could do any of this for anyone, I would do it for them.
Time and time again God has shown me how every step I take in freedom is freeing someone I love. I want to see my sons not have to fight some of the same battles I have had too. I want the generations that come up after them to be free from all of the oppression, strongholds and rebellion that have been passed down from generation to generation. I want a heritage of the Lord Jesus Christ over my family line, and no other.
Deliverance can sound very scary for some, and completely unnecessary to others, but I can guarantee you, that if you are a born again Christian, you will greatly benefit from a deliverance session. It is one of the most important steps any Christian can take in their walk with Christ, and it helps lead us to not only freedom, but the maturity as believers we desire to achieve. Stop allowing the thoughts and motives of the world hold you back, and go to your Father and ask Him to lead the way. Trust in Him to show you what your next step in this process is. He is a good father, that gives His children good gifts.
I will restore to you the years that the swarming locust has eaten, the hopper, the destroyer, and the cutter, my great army, which I sent among you. “You shall eat in plenty and be satisfied, and praise the name of the Lord your God, who has dealt wondrously with you. And my people shall never again be put to shame. You shall know that I am in the midst of Israel, and that I am the Lord your God and there is none else. And my people shall never again be put to shame.
Joel 2:25-27
